Bearded Lizards

Welcome to my bearded lizards site. Bearded lizards or as more commonly known as bearded dragons, are lizards that are native to Australia and have become increasingly popular in the USA as household pets. I currently own a bearded dragon and he is one of the coolest pets I have ever owned. Getting to around 24 inches in length, bearded lizards are very docile lizards that are easy to handle but do require daily care. Http://www.beardeddragonguide.com/ has a lot of useful information on bearded dragons and is a good site to check out to see what care is required for bearded lizards.

If you do decide that a bearded dragon is for you, and you want to get one that’s a baby, then you should probably look to spend around $180-$200 for a complete setup including the dragon itself. You’ll want to make sure the setup comes with a 15 gallon tank, uvb lamp, heat lamp, a thermometer, calcium or play sand for the substrate, a branch of some sort for the bearded lizards to climb and bask in the light, and a water dish big enough for him/her to lay in. Again, http://www.beardeddragonguide.com/ will explain in further detail the appropriate setup you want to get for a baby bearded dragon. You can also check with your local reptile shop owner if you have any questions.

Bearded Lizards Love to Climb!!

When setting up a bearded lizards cage, you’ll want to place the uvb lamp near the middle of the cage and place your heating lamp on one side of the cage as the other side will be used if the bearded dragon gets too hot and needs to cool down.  You’ll want to make sure your bearded dragon gets around 12 hours of UVB light daily.  Utilizing your heating lamp during the daytime is also important as the ideal temperature for the basking area of bearded lizards is 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit.  Make sure you feed your lizard daily, start out with mainly baby crickets coated in calcium powder and also green vegetables every 4 days, and change out the water as well on a daily basis.  Make sure you do not feed the bearded dragon iceberg lettuce as that can cause water poisoning in the dragon due to the high water content in the lettuce, at least that is what the reptile store employee told me.  All in all, bearded lizards are great pets who have great dispositions and are easily handle able.

What are your favorite lizards??
